Hillary and I were at the new space today to look some stuff over. One of the things we noticed is that, while there is a doorway with hardware that indicates there was in the past a door, there is currently no door on the hall that leads back to the west section of the building. If you follow the hallway back it opens into an area with cubicles and offices that are not well sealed off from wanderers.
I remember when we looked at the building, one of the guys showing it to us was pretty emphatic that NO ONE, especially kids, should go back in that area on Sundays. However, there is nothing to prevent people (kids) from exploring. I know it is hard to believe that any of our kids would run off to a place we had specifically forbidden them from going. But you know, maybe for visiting kids this could be an issue.
I propose that Leslie ask the landlord to install a locking door in the doorway from the lobby (where it is clear there was a door at one point). This is to both protect the stuff of the other tenants, and to keep our kids safe.
If they steadfastly refuse after Leslie works her property management negotiating magic on them, then I think she should ask them to pay for a sturdy portable partition (without space for kids to crawl under and that won't fall over on kids) to block off that doorway.
If they refuse to do that, then I think we will have to buy such a partition.
In the same vein, the women's bathroom has a second door that opens into an office which itself is open into the west cubicle area. I propose that Leslie also ask the management to provide a way to lock this door--maybe a bolt lock with the knob on the office side so they can lock it when not in use, or a lock with a key on the inside of the bathroom that someone from kids church can lock Sunday mornings and then unlock before we leave. As a last resort, if they refuse to do this, we will have to put a heavy piece of furniture or something in front of the door on Sunday mornings to prevent kids from wandering back there.
