This isn't exactly a common area, but the space is needed for multiple purposes.
What are the thoughts for the room to the east of the sanctuary? For "other events" it would be really great to have a space where we could have small-medium meetings (5 - 15 people). Small groups, newcomer's lunches, planning team meetings, ministry meetings, etc. could all use a conference room type space. I haven't seen any office plans or other plans for that room, but here is my thought:
Put the office along the far east wall, near the door that is close to the outside door. In my drawing the "office area" is a little over 6 feet wide and runs the length of the room (from the door to the south wall), about 18 feet. We could put up 3.5 or 4 ft. tall partitions around all or some part of this office space. The shorter partitions would allow a person in the office to still enjoy the large wall of windows but give it a definite separation from the rest of the room. There would be space to put (lockable) file cabinets, bookcases, desk & work space, printer, etc.
The rest of the room would be a conference room type area where small meetings and classes could be held. There should be table space and seating available for up to about 15 people.
The area between the east and west doors of the room, along the windows, should probably be kept clear.
